WAKGAS was incorporated on February 10, 1984 as a private limited company under the Companies Ordinance of 1984. It became a Public Limited Company in May 1985. It received its LPG Marketing license on May 18, 1989 under the Liquefied Petroleum (production and distribution) Rules of 1971, from the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Government of Pakistan.
The company started its LPG marketing operations in August 1989 under the trade name WAKGAS after it signed its first LPG Sales/Purchase agreement with the Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) for the purchase of LPG from the gas field of Adhi.
To support its LPG business, WAKGAS developed extensive storage capacity, a transportation network and manufacturing facilities for cylinders and bottling apparatus.
